My practice is predominantly therapy based where I consult individuals, couples, and teens for a wide range of challenges. I see the world in relationships and believe our mental health and well being is linked to the health of our relationships. This expands to our family, friends, work, or school environments, and all the relationships we encounter. These are the fundamentals to how I work – understanding my client in relation to their worlds and then assisting using various techniques that I am trained in. Within this realm, I also have specific interest in the following areas:

  • Clinical hypnotherapy: I am a certified Clinical Hypnotist and I am passionate about using hypnosis to enrich the therapeutic work that I do. Hypnosis can be understood as a deep level of relaxation in which the critical faculty is suspended and selective thinking is used. Hypnosis is a natural state that everyone experiences throughout the day, it comes and goes, some examples of hypnosis include “highway hypnosis” which occurs when you take the exit on the highway without recalling that you changed lanes. Another example of hypnosis occurs when you watch a movie or read a book and you immerse yourself in the storyline and feel what the characters feel. Hypnotherapy involves guiding a client into a state of hypnosis and the client is aware of everything said during hypnosis with the aim to bring relief to the client on a subconscious level.

  • Sex therapy: When I see a client for sex therapy or sexual dysfunction or a client questioning their sexuality or sexual expression, I focus on gaining an understanding of how a client perceives sex. This involves looking at beliefs, societal norms, the influence of the media, relationships, the function of sex or intimacy or sensuality for the individual, and ideas about pleasure. I consider all of these factors and how it impacts on the client’s experience of himself/herself/themselves when expressing their sexual needs and whether it is in line with their needs or causing distress or dysfunction. I am a proudly gender affirming health care provider and I see clients from various sexual identities and preferences.

  • Sport psychology: I am also involved and passionate about  sport. Within sports I help with individual and team performance, career development and challenges after pursuit of a professional sporting career. The sports context presents unique challenges to individuals, teams and coaches and as a Sport Psychologist I can assist with interpersonal challenges, performance and maintaining an active and balanced lifestyle.
