My journey in clinical psychology began at North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, where I completed my Master's training. Since then, I've worked in psychiatric hospitals and a tertiary general training hospital, gaining experience with clients of different ages, genders, and cultures. These diverse settings have allowed me to develop a range of skills, including individual, group, and couples' psychotherapy, psychometric assessment and report writing, and collaborative work with multidisciplinary team members. As a result, I work with clients from approximately 10 years old through to adulthood.
I'm also passionate about training the next generation of psychologists and have lectured at various universities. My recent Master's training offerings have included Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy. I've been a clinical supervisor for trainee clinicians for many years, and have supervised research dissertations covering a broad range of psychology topics for both clinical psychology and psychiatry students.
My doctoral study focused on adolescent suicidal behaviour and the healthcare providers who support them. I particularly enjoy working with teenagers and adolescents, and much of my work with younger clients involves trauma, adjustment difficulties, social challenges, anxiety, and depression.
I believe in having conversations with clients before determining which intervention would be most suitable, as everyone's needs are different. I'm trained in person-centred and psychodynamic psychotherapy, and I'm experienced in training clinicians in various forms of cognitive behavioural therapies, including CBT, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy. I'm also a registered BWRT practitioner.
I recently joined the Satori team and I'm excited about this new chapter. My plan is to spend more time on psychotherapeutic work whilst continuing to stay involved in training clinicians.
